Looking for 1999-2000 MJAHL Roster/Number List
Hi Folks,
Looking to find a Numbers list for each team's roster for a couple of projects I'm working on.... Hopefully somebody will be able to help. Looking for the 1999-2000 season specifically, but would take anything from 1988-2000 period. If you have any old game programs or box scores, I would really appreciate it! Thanks!

Well, I can tell that you are not from the Ottawa Valley or you do not follow hockey there. Scouts from all levels, EVEN the NHL and the US, come up to the Valley several times a year to scout the Ottawa 67s, the CCHL and occasionally the EOJHL. There are several players in the EOJHL, yes Junior B, that are affiliated with the OHL every year and the OHL teams do know about young talent in their area from about 13-14 years old and up. Many 16-17 year old EOJHL players are affiliated with the CCHL every year as well. A good scout finds the good players at an early stage regardless where they are playing and regardless of what level. Names get passed around all the times. The right people know.

Nice article on the business of the junior teams. For example: OHL Rangers took in $6.2m ($3.6m from tickets) and spent $6.1m. But most of that difference was given away to charity, leaving net at $22,165. |
What are the experiences of others out there?

GMHL - What is this league's deal?
I'd say the league is a great development league for younger players that aren't ready for the ojhl, nojhl and so on, if you contact the teams they are very wanting of new players, some of the teams are just a money grab for example I emailed 2 teams one team was $4500 the other was $8700, the $4500 team also offered ice time every week day from 8am to 4pm for personal skills, however some teams offered to sign me just based on my past season points which makes no sense IMO, In conclusion I would recomend contacting a local team and seeing the price for sure if you are 16 or 17.

Can, anyone tell me how often a grade 11 (15-16) makes a gmhl team

Junior A in Ontario Costs
Finding out the cost for every team would be extremely time consuming, quickly out of date (teams change their fee's every season), can be erroneous if not all fee's such as OHA are wrapped in the number. As well you would need to detail what is included by way of ice time, equipment, etc. and non of this even gets into tiered pricing with older players paying less than newer players. There is NO STANDARD, so no DIRECT COMPARISON says the whole story.
If a single team was less expensive but had 3 hours of practice ice plus zero equipment for $4,000 be better than another program that gives 5 hours of ice time per week with 6 free high end sticks, off ice training and $4,200.
The OJHL there is no standard, some have the same cost player to player while others are structured very hard to compare.
How about a team that is $2,500 for a senior player and $4,000 for a player breaking into the league in a structured fee system....what is the price you list on the comparison chart. Do you quote the higher price or the lower price...different structures you cannot compare apples to oranges. Some teams do this as youngers players are used to high fee's, older players may be on their own with less disposable income to remain in the game.
I would say many Jr. A clubs in Ontario run in the $3.5K to the $6K mark in general. That price would be inclusive of all fee's, however differ team to team by way of what the players receive. Some teams tier their prices, some do more equipment, some more ice....however I stand fairly confident in the range I have given.
If you want specifics I do know of some individual programs and what is included, that should NOT be the sole reason for choosing a team however. I would say price is important but equally so are team ownership, coaching, visibility, scholarships awarded, practice ice time, treatment of players, community support, advancement to higher levels.
I would say the average this season would be the $4K mark in my knowledge, with cost not directly equating to the overall experience you would wish to be part of. Some of the middle cost teams have excellent programs, some of the higher ones are some of the worst. Do your research but ask the right questions as sometimes there is more in the details that matter.

A question about player ages
How common it is in Canadian Junior Hockey that age difference between two line mates is more than five years? I saw that kind of case in Finnish junior league today (19.4.1994 <-> 22.4.1999) and my initial feeling is that it would be quite rare, but is it?

2015 CHL Top Prospects Game
We are 1/3 of the way through the 2014-15 season and the 2015 NHL Draft class is beginning to take shape.
For quick look-ahead to the 2015 CHL Prospects game, to be held January 22nd in St. Catherines, ONT ( bmotopprospects.ca/ ), I've put together some mock rosters.
I've made mock rosters based on A.) the just released CSS Central Scouting Watch List ( www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=739668 ) and B.) the most recent FC list, which now ranks the top 100 ( futureconsiderations.ca/fc-releases-november-ranking-2015-nhl-draft/ ).
What I've done is consider only A/B ranked prospects and put them in order, as ranked by Future Considerations. You will see in the brackets next to each player both their FC Rank and CSS Grade , so (FC/CSS).
I've then assigned the players to Team Orr and Team Cherry based on Orr getting first pick and then alternating 2 picks each at a time, so Orr got 1, Cherry got 2/3, Orr got 4/5 etc. etc.
So that's the process used to select the players and build the teams in this absolutely non-binding mock build of the CHL Top Prospect Rosters. The actual rosters will be built with players selected by the 30 NHL teams in early December.
This is just for fun. A snapshot in time at the 1/3 mark of the season.
