The word in casselman is that Widenmaier is apparently on the move to either Ottawa south or west to play closer to home for his over ager year. Look for a blockbuster trade coming this off season folks

In the OHL, obviously the Knights are the current top franchise, in the playoffs every year since the 99-00 season, lots of 100 point seasons, division titles, OHL championships and the 2005 Memorial Cup dream team. They usually have a ton of NHL drafted players, sell out pretty much every game, and have probably the best ownership in the league with the Hunters running the show. They have also hosted two very successful Memorial Cups.

The second top team I would say is Guelph, obviously a big step behind London, but they are usually always competitive (have made the playoffs every year since 1992), have had a lot of NHL talent come through, usually a very well coached team. Fan support is questionable though.

Kitchener has had some very successful teams since 2000, winning the 2003 Memorial Cup and finishing in second in 2008. But they've had some horrible teams too, missing the playoffs in 2001, 2009 and 2014. Great fan support though, but clearly a step behind London in terms as best OHL franchise.

I would put Plymouth in the mix as well. Always competitive, almost always with a few NHL draftees, and well coached/managed. Fan support is small but dedicated.

Ok, let me answer the question without the bickering. If the host team wins their league, the runner up gets in. This is the same for the Memorial Cup in the CHL which is Major Junior, the RBC Cup in the CJHL, which is Junior A (and the Western Canada Cup, which is the SJHL/AJHL/BCHL/MJHL qualifier to the RBC Cup), the Keystone Cup which is the Western Canadian Junior B championship. Heck, even the CIS University Cup works this way (unless they are a conference in which they already have two slots, then the third place team gets in, but I believe going forward the CIS eliminated this rule.)

Even in international hockey, the host gets in. I believe a few years ago one of the European hosts was relegated, but were allowed to stay up as they were the hosts.

This is all done to help guarantee ticket sales. If the Blades (who footed the bill for the tournament) had bowed out, Saskatoon wouldn't have bought packages for the tournament. You may not like this from a competitive standpoint, but this is necessary to entice fans to buy tickets. Very, very few sports events sell large quantities of tickets without a local team participating. The only ones I can think of are the Grey Cup and the Super Bowl.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some majors changes next year in the way the league is ran. I'd expect a much bigger partnership with the CCHL.

Can anyone tell me who are the top prospects for the upcoming CHL import draft and where I can get some scouting reports on them. I always wondered with the limited scouting most CHL teams have, especially over seas how these lists are compiled and shared. Any thoughts?

does any one know the protection rules? if a team tells a player they are going to protect them, can that player say no and play for another team in the eojhl?

You can only be protected by a team whose arena is within 33km of the players residence. If the player does not want to play for that team they will have to ask for a trade or outright release.
